COMMENTS FROM THE CRITIQUE
WORDS FROM A VARIETY OF PROFESSIONALS

- Cater to those who don’t have confidence about their culture?
- Think and research about why they do not have confidence?
- Is it because they simply don’t have the knowledge?

- Is it 2d vs. 3d?
- How do different languages conflict with the mission?
- Possible to study one group?
- Look into Placematters.net
- Confusion about the final outcome
- A welcome kit?
- A booklet explaining the stereotypes and dos and don’ts in New York City.

- Look into pbs case studies on immigrants
- Emergency situations
- Ex-military problems?
- What is urgent?

- what makes your “memory” box special from a Martha Stewart scrapbook/box kit?
- Is a feature that makes it fireproof setting it apart?
- Why not just make one for everyone?
- This idea of pluralism should be negated or brought out stronger
- Will the final product be extremely modern and sleek? Or will it be a traditional box with a lot of cultural implications?
- How does the time of stay affect the interaction with the box

- Visit the Chinatown museum on Mott street, lower eastside tenement museum, and go to Ellis Island
- How do you create memory?- how do museums capture memory? Look at the natural museum of history, they essentially capture time and history,
- Clarify a more specific problem: is it the problem of interracial marriage?
- Get really specific: look into why you chose this area. What is really bugging you? About immigrants and the problems that lie?
- Start making program: Junkspace
- Define the 5 w’s: will clear up argument
- How will you define the size
- What forces users to use?

- Could it become a game?
- Look at monopoly for NYC
- Trivial game dealing with a specific subject, (food?)
- Information to others? Outside of the immigrant culture

For my experiment I went to people’s apartments and told them that in the 2098 there will be an archive of all of our personalities in these boxes. One day your grandchildren will be able to go into this library, look up your name and open a box filled with your belongings. This box will personify who you were in the year 2006. What would you place and what kind of information would you like to share with them?

Just imagine...

THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING 1,2 + 3

OBSERVATIONS PART 1

[ If you had to evacuate your apartment in 2 mins what are you going to take? ]

The following is what everyone carried

These are some images of my presentation from this past Monday tell me what you think. Let me know if there are any areas that you think I might benefit from.

My matrix showing the thought process behind my project

An article in BuisnessWeek explaining the psychology
behind why
people buy and the reasoning for these tactics
An article by Dan B. Cauthron exploring the emotions and
fears of buying, and how marketers use these aspects
to lure different markets and cultures.

A matrix diagram exploring the NFP: The Red Cross
exploring the idea of being ready in emergency
situations and how people can start to prioritize
what they might need incase of one, how can they
start to collect, items, irreplaceable items, significant objects,
necessary and unnecessary objects, and how to
capture memories.

Another matrix diagram with an interest in designing for people with
compulsive disorders and identifying what objects and
habits make them feel safe. I have always been interested in the
ideas of paranoia, and how people consume or take part in certain activities
to help them to feel safe.

Photo montage/ network/ matrix starting to explore value within the home. and the placement of these items. People hide things, display things high, low, and on the eye level. This will become an on going scenario diagram that can help me to prioritize what people value and why. Following this image will be a more specific matrix that dissects the value of goods keeping function in mind.
